NBC Dateline's 'Poisoned' chronicles the mysterious killing of Dr. Mary Louise (Bakert) Yoder, a 60-year-old woman who was sentenced for the crime in Oneida County, New York, in July 2015. Mary's sisters refuse to believe the real culprit had been identified. They actively campaign for the prosecution to reopen in their sister's death.
Mary Yoder's Siblings: Who Are They?
Mary Louise Bakert Yoder was born to Norma Janet Schwartz Bakert and Arthur Charles Bakert in Buffalo, New York. Her brothers are Thomas and Arthur Bakert, while her sisters are Sharon Mills, Sallie Bakert King, Kathleen Richmond, and Patricia Bakert Miceli.
Mary was ecstatic when the sisters mentioned how she was fit and healthy they were, as well as how she even got her into belly dancing. It was an Egyptian art form, according to Sallie. On July 21, 2015, Mary was taken to a hospital.
Mary lived a normal lifestyle, dismissing her sickness as a stomach ache. Nevertheless, she continued to deteriorate, and she died of multiple cardiac arrests before breathing last at the end of the afternoon on July 2. Doctors and her family were shocked by her sudden and tragic death — a healthy and fit woman dying a premature death after experiencing sudden sickness.
The doctors wondered whether she had been poisoned, and several toxicology tests were done on her. However, when the usual poisons, such as arsenic and cyanide, were dismissed, the medical examiner examined for Colchicine and found deadly doses of the drug present in her body. Her official cause of death was Colchicine toxicity and manner of death murder.
In November 2015, the police received an anonymous letter that alleged Adam, Mary's youngest son, was suspected of her death. However, the investigators soon discovered that Adam had gone to visit one of his sisters in Long Island five days prior to the murder. Kaitlyn Conley, Adam's girlfriend, was further investigated.
What Are Mary Yoder's Current Siblings?
Kaitlyn, then 24, was accused of murdering Mary's husband, Dr. William "Bill" Yoder, in May 2016. After her first trial ended in a mistrial, she was cleared of first-degree manslaughter in November 2017, and sentenced to 23 years in prison. Janine runs a website dedicated to Kaitlyn.
The sisters claim Bill of conspiring to cover up his wife's death, but Kathy was also well-off after inheriting her late husband's estate.
Bill was named after her inheritance and therefore the alleged romantic affair. Janine lives in Utica, New York, with her husband, Donald King, and sells handmade bags and purses online. Sharon is a registered respiratory therapist at Naples Oxygen and lives in Frankfort, New York, with her husband, George Mills. Sallie is not a well-known blogger.
