Boo.
Servant's fourth episode takes place on the eve of Halloween, with toilet paper everywhere on the streets. Good job, 2020 tender! Dorothy examines old photos from her reporting days, where she used to be dubbed the Queen of Halloween.
While the house-helping sisters begin sifting through the closets looking for a Halloween costume for Jericho (a pumpkin doesn't get a lot of response from Dorothy so Sean opts for a lobster instead), Julian arrives and discovers silly string and paper all over his vehicle. He's not happy, believing the holiday encourages malice.
Leanne watches the CCTV cameras like a hawk, with her trusty dagger on her lap. She's confident that the cult will be close by some time soon and attack someday. However, she intends to use her homeless group to act first, deterring those who will do her wrong.
When Toby comes to visit, Leanne allows him to join her as she wanders down the street and tries to determine which ones are the cults.
Leanne is soon confronted by a guy wearing a skull mask (the same one Toby had) who stalks her and eventually shows her a knife. He is nice to her, but when she pushes him down and pulls his arm, snapping it in an awkward and uncomfortable manner, it turns out it was just a kid making fun of her.
As Leanne appears to be causing the street to burst with maniacal snarling, Uncle George presents himself in the alley, admitting that he's concerned that Leanne's situation is spreading, and that he's certain that Roscoe will be on his side to assist.
Leanne enters the house, giggling to herself, and declares her love of Halloween. However, Sean has made his decision and speaks confidently to Dorothy the next night, declaring that he will do everything he can to get rid of Leanne.
So it appears that Leanne is some sort of a shaman, and although the cult is the ones who have been portrayed as the bad guys here, it might be a red herring and shown that Leanne is the real foe here.
Despite the Halloween theme, the episode itself lacks a lot of substance. This is unfortunate since Servant has always had a problem with its pace.
There will be a lot of drama to come as we prepare for the second half of this season, and there will certainly be a few more twists and turns along the way.
