Recap of Season 2 Episode 9 of The Legend of Vox Machina
The episode begins with a flashback to Westruun, killing innocent villagers in a brutal manner. Kevdak praises one of the soldiers, who happens to be a youthful Grog. The twist is that he was once a violent villain. The creators return to the present day. Pike, Grog, and Scanlan hide out in a barn, looking in on Westruun's desolation.
Pike advises them to keep away from the city in the wake of the Vox Machina's return, but Pike wants to assist anyone she can. Scanlan, who has noticed Pike's subtle advances, enters the city.
Grog confesses that he is not nervous, but ashamed. He once fought alongside Kevdak in the herd, but that all changed when he met Wilhand, Pike's great great grandfather. Wilhand showed Grog some humanity, and he forever changed.
Zanror, Kevdak's son, entered Wilhand's home while Grog was hesitant to kill him. The two cousins fight, and Grog assists Wilhand in his escape. The gnome promises to repay Grog for his kindness, before he flees. Kevdak defeats Grog to a pulp, calling him a spineless traitor.
Pike, who never knew it was Grog, was surprised to learn that they nursed Grog back to life, just as they saved him for no reason. He assures Grog that he did not kill many people for no reason. He kisses Umbrasyl and kisses his best friend.
Scanlan the mosquito enters the city. He notices Zanror and the other Goliath's gathering their loot for the dragons. Zanror is sick of his father's loyalty and wants to take over as their leader. Scanlan hides from the half-giants and discovers a clan of survivors lurking in the shadows. Kaylie asks for his assistance in escape.
Umbrasyl makes a rather loud and deadly appearance in the city. Ripley is dissatisfied with the half-giants and asks Umbrasyl why do they take Kevdak's vestiges away from him? Umbrasyl replies, stating that the half-giants are still useful. Kevdak seeks more gold and threatens to take his father's pledge.
Pike and Grog devise their own strategy, fearing that Scanlan has been captured. Pike covers himself in pig's blood and drags Pike into the city, telling the guards that he has a murder to pass to his uncle. After Scanlan and Grog escape, the trio becomes reunited and hugs one another in celebration.
Grog refuses to give up his uncle for the time being. After all he is weak, it would be a suicide mission. But Kevdak stands tall against the others, shouting, 'Remember me?'
