Horizon Forbidden West isn't quite what you'd expect from Guerrilla Games, but the latest game has struggled on the market, and to date it has sold less than five million copies on PS4 and PS5.
The data can be obtained by looking at the best-selling Sony PS4 exclusive series of all time. Death Stranding is in the first place, with five million copies sold from Death Stranding on PS4 and Death Stranding Director's Cut on PS5, while the PC version is not included in the count.
Horizon Forbidden West has sold less than five million copies on PS4 and PS5 between February 2022 and 31 December 2022. On the other hand, the Horizon series is not among the best-selling Sony series, with 27.1 million copies, and the Guerrilla franchise has not surpassed (at least) this figure.
So the impression is that Horizon Forbidden West sold less than expected. This is understandable because Sony has never released a press release related to the game's sales, unlike what was done to commemorate the 11 million copies of God of War Ragnarok.
Horizon Forbidden West collided with the incredible Elden Ring success at the time of its release, which has become a household name in the United States in just a few days, with 17 million copies sold in a matter of months. It's possible that players would prefer not to purchase the game on PS4 in order to enjoy it in the next-gen.
It's true that now the PS5 is quite easy to find, but Horizon Forbidden West's sales aren't very visible, although it's obscured by God of War Ragnarok's sales, which continue to sell very well in all major markets. Let's discuss it (civilly) below.
