The supply issues that engulfed the Playstation 5's manufacturing are no longer an issue, and this is evident in the console's sales statistics, according to Sony.
With the Playstation 5, Sony had a rough start, and it wasn't that the demand was too great, rather that issues with the procurement of components caused huge delivery difficulties with the console. According to Sony, the situation has now improved, and this is now evident in the sales figures.
According to the most recent financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022 (i.e. the months October to December), a whopping 7.1 million PS5s were shipped during the period, compared to 3.1 million in the same period last year. This brings the total number of PS5 consoles shipped to 32.1 million.
The PS5 should be able to meet its previously reduced potential, according to a study. The number of PS Plus subscribers has decreased from 48 million in Q3 2021 to 46.4 million in Q3 2022. The number of active monthly users on the Playstation Network has increased by one million to 112 million.
The sales of PS4 and PS5 software dropped dramatically from 92.7 to just 86.5 million copies, which may be to do with the weaker release year – many games will be released again in 2022, mostly due to the phenomenal success of God of War Ragnarök, which sold 11 million copies over the counter. Only a tiny minority of players still use physical versions.
