Madison Russo, a 19-year-old Bettendorf lady, was in the headlines after she was apprehended for a GoFundMe scam for $37,000. She has been receiving donations on claims that she had stage 2 cancer sharing on social media. Post which she received a lot of donations.

Madison Russo, a 19-year-old Bettendorf girl, has been making headlines since her arrest in connection with a scam on 23rd January 2023. Her arrest occurred after receiving a $37,000 donation from donors on the GoFundMe as a scam.

Madison had claimed that she was suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a stage 3 pancreatic cancer, according to sources. She had even disclosed that a tumor was lurking around her spine. It was also revealed on her social media pages.

She received a $37,000 reward from 439 donors, and she is now being detained for the same reason.

When GoFundMe users discovered medical anomalies in the social media post of Madison discussing the latter's illness, the whole thing took a different turn eventually forcing her to be apprehended. Now, post receiving the donation in the GoFundMe. She has been charged with theft by deception.

Despite her $10,000 bond being released from the Scott County jail on Monday, everyone has been shocked by all this. While many are still wondering how long she has been running this scam.

Madison Russo's stage 2 cancer claims have been ongoing for around a year, according to sources. The first social media record on the claim came in July 2022 on Facebook. Not just that, the North Scott Press Newspaper had also shared Russo's story as a cancer victim back in October 2022. Netizens have however criticized Russo's actions for being fraudulent.

While GoFundMe lambasted the same, it added: "GoFundMe has a zero tolerance policy for misusing our platform and cooperates with law enforcement investigations of those accused of wrongdoing." In the rare event where something isn't right, donors get a full refund.
