The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards have officially been put on the table, and aside from a few surprise snubs, the nominations were all as planned. In the category of directing, several highbrow and artistic films were nominated, including The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything All At Once, The Fabelmans, and The Triangle of Sadness.

Daniel Kwan and his directing partner Daniel Schienert were nominated for their work on Everything Everywhere All At Once, a comedy-drama starring Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others. Kwan's Wikipedia page explains that his prolific writing and directing partnership began while he was in college. According to Boston.com, in 2009, Kwan still had a year of college when they became teaching assistants at the New York Film Academy summer camp, which is where they developed a lasting connection as filmmakers.

Scheinert said the role at which we began working together was related to Daniels. We were both so affluent and so passionate about doing really strange movies with the children that we kind of realized we were kindred spirits, and we decided to continue making our own summer movies after hours.
