Microsoft has released financial statements for the second quarter of fiscal 2023, which are unfortunately, disappointing: gaming division revenues fell by 13% from October to December, resulting in a $4.74 billion loss in Xbox sales, the lowest level since the second quarter of 2020.
The Xbox Content & Services division reported a decrease, in this case by 12%, while Xbox hardware sales are down 13%, according to the company, which has just sued PlayStation to defend itself from the FTC's lawsuit.
Microsoft explains that the decrease in first-party content and a reduced degree of monetization in third-party productions are partly to blame for an increase in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
Microsoft's operating profit was down 8% and the distribution of Windows in OEM format was a complete failure, but there are also businesses that have made improvements, including the cloud, which has increased by 18%, and Bing and LinkedIn both gained +20%.
