Jonathon Dornbush, Naughty Dog's editorial director, summarizes the work done by the developers following Neil Druckmann to bring Clickers to lifethe creatures that embody the series' catastrophe and the horror experienced by those who, like Joel and Ellie, strive daily for their survival.

Dornbush recollects that Druckmann was the one who wanted to insert these frightening infected beings into the Last of Us universe in order to demonstrate what brought humanity to the brink of extinction. Concept art is shown in the video and the PlayStation Blog article Hyoung Nam, the concept artist who created the very first Clicker artwork.

The final appearance of these animals is inspired by Nam's work, with the humans transformed into zombies by Cordyceps, and the face disfigured by the uncontrollable growth of fungi in the infected cells. All scenes were shot in the spectacular Episode 2 of the TV series The Last of Us directed by Neil Druckmann.
