Oscar Nominations for 2023: Genre Fare Like Avatar 2 & Everything Everywhere Score Big ...

Time to scoff at the nominees and complain that the Academy is out of touch. Time to watch it all anyway and enjoy the heck out of it. These include Best Picture nominations for the sci-fi film Avatar: The Way of Water, and the action sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

The fact that the Academy has expanded its Best Picture list by ten nominees is a surprise, considering that everything is favored early, but it had yet to receive a nomination other than technical ones.

More traditional nominations include All Quiet on the Western Front, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking, though both Banshees and Triangle of Sadness are dark comedy (and fantastic).

Jamie Lee Curtis received her first Oscar nomination ever with EEAO for Supporting Actress, and the film was one of the leading contenders for the 2023 Academy Award. RRR was nominated for Best Song for "Naatu Naatu," an absolute jammer, for the first time ever.
