Avatar: The Way of Water is now the sixth largest film in history ...

Despite being a 13-year-old sequel, the film-going public still loves the Avatar franchise. Avatar: The Way of Water has surpassed Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the sixth largest box office film of all time.

Avatar: The Way of Water has now earned $2,026,675,670 worldwide, according to the most recent box office data. Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Titanic, Avengers: Endgame, and Avatar (2009) are the only films that have made more money than The Way of Water.

With these recent statistics, director James Cameron has made history as the only director in history to direct three films that have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. The Russo Bros. who directed both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are the closest directors to achieve similar success.

Zoe Saldana, an actor, has also made history as the only actor or actress to make four films that gross more than $2 billion. Her films include Avatar, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to outperform both Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens' worldwide earnings. It remains to be seen if the new film can match the $2.2 billion from Titanic, which James Cameron directs.

Three additional sequels to Avatar: The Way of Water will be released later this decade. The third film will reportedly include the addition of a new fire tribe.
