Today, January 23, 2023, the United States' tax filing season will begin. Over 168 million personal tax returns will be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by the April 18th deadline.

After the COVID-19 epidemic lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, the 2023 tax filing season will be another step toward resuming normal.

The IRS has hired an additional 5,000 people to answer phones and ensure a stress-free filing process for taxpayers with the inflation reduction legislation.

The IRS extends the deadline for filing taxes on a Saturday as per the rules. When the deadline falls on a Saturday, the IRS takes it to the next working day.

The IRS's headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and the following Monday is Emancipation Day, a recognized holiday, which will be observed. As a result, the deadline will be Tuesday, April 18th.

Taxpayers should anticipate their refunds to begin processing as soon as they finish their taxes in 2022.

The sooner a taxpayer files his taxes, the sooner they will receive their refund, especially when considering that March is the most busy month for the Internal Revenue Service.
