Stephen A. Smith has never been one to speak out about Rihanna's coming Super Bowl halftime performance, while comparing her to another great.
"I don't want to say I'm not excited," he continued on Sherri Wednesday as he talked about Riri's coming to the stage. "There's one thing she's not, she's not Beyoncé."
The studio was then erupted with mixed reactions, including some loud boos from the audience.
Beyoncé was brought up for the first time by Bruno Mars and Coldplay, according to him.
Bey has performed in the Super Bowl halftime performance twice, once with the aforementioned performers sharing the stage and another solo, although she brought along her Destiny's Child group mates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, for that performance.
'Beyoncé has performed, but she's had her time,' host Sherri Shepherd responded, to applause. 'Now there's Rihanna, Rihanna's coming back, she's got that extra edge of motherhood, I like Rihanna.'
Smith continued by saying that he loves a lot of women on television, but that he is not putting a smidgeon on them. That's not putting a shade on them.
Members of The Navy pelted The Shade Room for his performance, including Bronx rapper Maliibu Miitch.
“No he did not fix them nasty creased, crusty, top lip being as big as the bottom lip to shade our beloved Rihanna,” wrote one fan, adding, "Here comes a guy who isn't even taller than us commenting on us!!"
Rihanna will perform for the NFL's 57th Super Bowl, which will be held on February 12th. The island-born beauty has released a teaser for the half-time performance as well as an NFL-inspired collection from Savage X Fenty.
