Tomohiko Ito, the director of Aniplex, has released his first manga, titled Wonder X, on the company's Comic Newtype platform. Ito is the lead author of the story in front of Aniplex's Script Room (founded in 2016 with the intention of focusing on anime scripts), while Kuroyama is the artist.

The story of Tomohiko Ito and Mekki Kuroyama's Wonder X manga is set in the early 1990s and follows a group of children who meet a strange being. The manga is also included in the Newtype magazine's October issue.

Tomohiko Ito is best known for his work on A-1 Pictures' Sword Art Online and Sword Art Online II, both of which he directed. Erased was his first film work for Silver Spoon, followed by Occult Academy, which was his directorial debut. He directed two Sword Art Online films, Extra Edition and Ordinal Scale, and Hello World (with a screenplay by Mado Nozaki).

Mekki Kuroyama contributed to the adaptation of the Amnesia Joker manga and has also worked as an artist for Isekaigaeri no Moto Yuusha Desu ga, and the manga Death Game ni Makikomaremashita.
