Bill and Melinda Gates were seen spending time together at their charitable foundation's Goalkeepers Global Awards ceremony in New York City on Wednesday, September 21. Just over a year after their divorce was finalized in August 2021, the former couple both walked the red carpet and participated in a panel discussion.
Bill, 66, wore a dark suit, while his ex-wife wore a pink dress with a black belt.
During an interview with Bloomberg on September 13, Melinda revealed that she and her ex-husband saw each other for the first time since their separation earlier in September. "We met with our board of trustees for the first time," she said. "What I think they would all say is that Bill and Melinda remain completely committed to this organization and to working effectively together. That's what we're doing today."
According to a press release, the Gates Foundation presented four individuals with honors for their work towards sustainable development. They included founder Radhika Batra, journalist and founder of Rukshana Media, Ugandan climate justice activist Vanessa Nakate, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In a statement in May 2021, Bill and Melinda said they would split up after 27 years together. He has been open about the pair's time together and allegations that he had cheated on his ex in interviews since the split. He looked back positively on the relationship in a May interview with the London Sunday Times.
