According to Us Weekly, Johnny Depp is seeing lawyer Joelle Rich. Joelle was part of Depp's legal team in his libel lawsuit against The Sun in the United Kingdom, but she was not part of Johnny's team when he sued his ex-wife Amber Heard in Virginia. Her behavior was unusual because "there was no professional obligation for her to be there."
According to Us Weekly, Depp and Rich allegedly met up in hotels during the early days of their romance. Joelle was married when she first met Johnny, but is now divorcing her ex-husband. The two have two children.
Johnny lost his libel lawsuit against The Sun in the United Kingdom in 2020, claiming that the claim was "substantially true," and that 12 of the 14 alleged domestic violence incidents occurred, according to the BBC. In 2021, Depp lost his appeal against the trial judge's decision on issues of disputed fact.
George Freeman, the executive director of the Media Law Resource Center, told the Washington Post that "the reason" for Depp's successful case against Heard, 36, when he failed in the United Kingdom, is "the same."
Depp was romantically linked to his lawyer, Camille Vasquez, in an interview with People. “It's disappointing that certain outlets kind of ran with it or said that my interactions with Johnny — who I've known and represented for four-and-a-half years now — were inappropriate or unprofessional,” she said.
Vasquez said at the time she was "very happy" with her relationship and that it was "unethical" for a lawyer to date one of their clients. "It's unfortunate, and it's disappointing, but at the same time, it kind of comes with the territory."
