Ishin will not have an English dub like a Dragon ...

Like a Dragon: Ishin will not have an English dub. This means that the forthcoming video game will only be available in native Japanese.

Like a Dragon: Ishin is a complete remake of Yakuza: Ishin, which was released in 2014 for PS3 and PS4 as a spin-off to the mainline series set during the 1860s.

Ishin has been a long time coming, according to the author.

The original game was sadly only ever released in Japan. Yet, enthusiasts still were able to import the game.

However, players would have to stick to translating manuals unless they had a solid understanding of the Japanese language.

Although not available in all Yakuza games, recent installments have offered the option of an English dub as well as native Japanese.

Nevertheless, during Tokyo Game Show week, a slew of Yakuza games were announced.

One of the TGS 2022 games announced was the mentioned Like a Dragon: Ishin.

Along with this, SEGA announced that the series would be rebranded under the new name, 'Like a Dragon.'

Here's why there is no English dub in Like a Dragon: Ishin.

Masayoshi Yokoyama, the creator of Like a Dragon: Ishin, confirmed that the remake will only feature Japanese voice actors with English subtitles.

In Like a Dragon: Ishin, Yokoyama explained that its lines of "specialized vocabulary" would be "extremely long."

Yokoyama mentions that Yakuza 0 does not have voiceovers, and that most western viewers prefer the series that way.

According to him, western audiences prefer Japanese voice actors rather than those who speak English.

Do Japanese voice actors prefer their idols?

“We’re not dubbing voiceovers,” says Yokoyama, who is translating the game into English. However, the specialized vocabulary and the way people spoke during the Bakumatsu era would make the lines excessively long, which would simply not work. This time, we’re doing subtitles.”

I really like the Japanese voice actors as a fan of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series.

Kiryu with a different voice would be just too odd to hear. However, an English dub may help those with impaired vision.

So much Yakuza goodness!

A sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon was announced earlier this week, as well as a brand-new game starring Kazuma Kiryu. Oh, and the Judgment series finally arrived on PC.
