Patrick Dempsey says he wants to work with Ellen Pompeo again: "I have a couple of ideas." ...

Patrick Dempsey, 56, surprised Grey's Anatomy viewers with his candid candidacy that he'd "love" to "work" with his former co-star Ellen Pompeo, 52, at the next D23 Expo. He then confessed to Extra that he wants to share his "couple ideas" with the actress, who was also there at the event.

Patrick, who played his character in Season 11 before dying, also praised Ellen for her "special" connection with the show, which he believes was due to the chemistry and the connection, and that people desire to believe in love and all of that. "She's got Christopher [Ivery] and I have my wife Jillian, and they're incredible people."

Patrick's remarks come just a few weeks after he made headlines for declaring that Grey's Anatomy will find a way to bring Derek Shepherd back on the program, which is now in its 19th season. When he rejoined Ellen's Meredith in a dream sequence, the show seemed to open the door for his return.

Patrick said in an exclusive interview about the possibility of future appearances during the D23 Expo on September 9. "It's a good surprise."

Patrick also addressed the reports of Derek's disappearance. "I heard that. I heard that," he said. "They'll figure out a strategy to bring him back, I'm sure."
