What is the significance of Crunchyroll's reimagining of Mob Psycho 100s ahead of Season 3? ...

Crunchyroll is expected to reimagine the main character from the Mob Psycho 100 series before the season 3 premiere this October.

Between My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, and To Your Eternity, the 2022 Fall anime broadcasting slate is expected to be one of the best seasons in recent anime history.

One of the most anticipated series to return in just a few weeks is the third season of Mob Psycho 100 from Studio Bones.

Crunchyroll is set to recast a few roles, including the main character of Shigeo Kageyama, although why is it that a dispute between the streaming platform and voice actor Kyle McCarley has resulted in this unfortunate situation?

What happened to Kyle McCarley, the voice of Mob Psycho 100?

Kyle McCarley is a well-known American voice actor who played main character Shigeo Kageyama in the English dubbing of Mob Psycho 100.

This week, he posted a video to his YouTube channel revealing that he might not reprise the role in the upcoming third season, which will premiere in October 2022.

Crunchyroll refused to submit to his request to meet with representatives from the Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) in order to finalize a contract for future anime productions, according to McCarley.

SAG-AFTRA is well-known for bringing various advantages to the voice acting industry in the United States, including negotiating contracts, pay, and external benefits such as health insurance and retirement funds.

Despite McCarley's comments, McCarley said: "It has been made abundantly clear to me that Crunchyroll will not be producing that show in the third season of Mob Psycho 100."

“I know for some of you that it probably sucks to hear, and believe me, it sucks a lot to say.” – Kyle McCarley on YouTube.

McCarley would mention that Crunchyroll has since responded to the issue and confirmed their intention that the contract would be offered in a non-union capacity.

“I could speculate on why they have taken this stand, but it would be speculation.” – Kyle McCarley, via Kotaku.

Crunchyroll would respond to Kotaku's comment request on Sunday, September 20th, in which they stated that there will be some recasting of roles ahead of the Mob Psycho 100 season 3 premiere.

"Crunchyroll is excited to release the dub for the third season of Mob Psycho 100 III as a SimulDub, the same day-and-date as the Japanese broadcast," according to Kotaku.

"We'll be producing the English dub at our Dallas production studios, and to accomplish this seamlessly as per our production and casting guidelines, we will need to recast some roles," according to Crunchyroll's statement on Mob Psycho 100 recasting, via Kotaku.

"We're looking forward to seeing fans enjoy the new voice talent," according to the statement, "and we'd express our gratitude to any departing cast members for their contributions to previous seasons."

Season 3 of Mob Psycho 100 will premiere in Japan on October 5th.
