Deathloop, a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive, will be released next week on Xbox Series X|S, according to Microsoft, along with a Tokyo Game Show game library update.

Given how well-known it was that Deathloop would be available on Xbox one year after its release on PS5 as timed exclusives, it's likely that Microsoft will make one of the least surprising moves. Both were released on Sony's console as timed exclusives in agreements that Bethesda and Sony had struck long before Microsoft's surprise acquisition of Bethesda in late 2020.

Microsoft and Bethesda both stated that existing agreements would be honored, meaning that the timed exclusivity would be in place following the purchase. Of course, once the year was up, Microsoft would be free to launch the game on their own consoles and add it to Xbox Game Pass.

What's perhaps even more shocking is that Microsoft and Sony have reached an agreement to bring Deathloop to PlayStation Plus Extra, which will be released on the 20th of September.

Arkane will also release the Goldenloop Update to the game, which includes a new weapon, a new weapon type, a new adversary type, and more.

Deathloop was one of the most popular games released in 2021, with Arkane constructing an immersive simulation around a central timeloop mechanic and a compelling mystery to solve.

Aran said in his 10/10 Deathloop interview:

“Deathloop is the type of game that will stay in your head even while you are not playing. Colt is a great protagonist, the complicated environmental design is a joy to explore, and the loop system keeps things fresh and provides endless replayability,” says the author.

Microsoft also jumped on Xbox Game Pass to celebrate Tokyo Game Show 2022 by releasing a slew of new games. The following are all included in Game Pass as of today:

  • Assassin’s Creed; Odyssey
  • Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition
  • Fuga; Melodies of Steel
  • Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Guilty Gear Strive, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Special Edition, and Dyson Sphere Program will all be available on Game Pass in the future.
