Before Overwatch 2 takes over, the official date that Overwatch 1 will finish will be October 2nd.
In a roundtable interview yesterday, Blizzard confirmed that Overwatch 1's last day will be October 2nd. Although time zone differences may mean this date may differ in some countries, the official last day is October 2nd.
The sequel to Overwatch will be released on October 4th. It will be the only playable Overwatch game, and the original will be inaccessible. However, anyone who owns Overwatch will be able to download Overwatch 2 ahead of time.
Jon Spector, the Overwatch commercial director, told Eurogamer, "We'll offer current Overwatch players the ability to download Overwatch 2 a little ahead of when we launch, if they want to pre-download." There's also a couple of things that we'll be asking players to do to prepare for Overwatch 2. We'll provide a launch guide to players before the 4th of October, when we launch."
"You'll see 'Upgrade the game to Overwatch 2' as an option on your PC or console." If you are a new player, you'll be able to come in and download and play Overwatch 2 for free on the 4th October."
What is the latest?
Overwatch 2 will fundamentally change the game. There will be new heroes, modes, and maps, of course. However, loot boxes will be lost, and the game will introduce a new battle pass system.
Heroes will be earnable on the free track of the battle pass. Players may also purchase the premium pass, which will include cosmetics and other items. There's also a new in-game shop where players may purchase what they want.
Overwatch 2 will be released on October 4th. It will be released simultaneously on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
