Research into graduate degrees leads to major failures

I have been in my second marriage for almost twenty years. My wife came with two grown kids, each of whom have two children. I tried to be the best family man I could and the father and grandfather who treated them like me.

After I gave her daughter some financial advice after she graduated from college, the daughter's daughter resorted. Diana didn't only misunderstood me, but also lied to her children about me and shut me up and my wife out of their lives. I am crushed and trying to keep my relationships with Diana's children short. I don't feel that I did anything wrong. The advice I gave was excellent and no professional would disagree with. Please advise. -- HURTING FROM HELPING, PLEASE.

You've got my sympathy. This may be an unfortunate example of no good deed goes unpunished. Because Diana refuses to discuss the matter, the breach she created isnt fixed. If you succeed in maintaining a relationship with the grandkids, you may eventually discover what set off your wife's daughter. In the meantime, you and your poor wife must accept what happened and do your best to not allow it to further disrupt your lives.

I work from home like many people. Today I finished a complicated process between customers and getting conflicting instant messages from the supervisor and manager. I exclaimed a cuss word and suddenly I got an IM from the manager saying I shouldn't cu cuiss. I am home, in my room, using my computer and on pause, so I can't hear a customer, and my manager listens to me? Was it my fault here? -- CAUGHT INTERRUPTED?

Yes, you were. If you did something during business hours that you wouldn't do at the office, you shouldn've not done it home. If you want to blur out a few choice words, do it if you aren't able to hear the microphone.

Unlike the rest of my family of omnivores, I have been a vegan for decades. After every meal and every time we get together, whoever made the reservation chooses a restaurant that doesn't serve anything I can eat. I'm going to eat bread and a small meal salad. I wouldn't like to go to a vegan restaurant, but just eat vegan food. Advice? -- HUNGRY VEGAN GUY IN CALIFORNIA?

DEAR VEGAN GUY: Give your insensitive relatives a list of restaurants that are more accommodating to your lifestyle. Many restaurants cater to patrons with different needs. So it shouldnt have happened to you more than once. Nothing will change until you speak up.
