The Empress is a German romantic period drama that will be available on Netflix next month. A teaser for the series has been released that depicts Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria's early childhood and her romantic connection with the Emperor of Austria. The series is written by Florian Cossen and Katrin Gebbe.
The official Netflix synopsis of the series states that Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph in Austria in the 1800s face love under duress, intrigues, and power struggles at the Viennese court. When Elisabeth meets Franz, the Emperor of Austria, the young couples' enticing love completely upsets the power structure at the Viennese court.
Elisabeth must face not only her mother-in-law, Sophie, who has a lot of power, but also her brother Maxi, who has long wanted the throne and for her. People in Vienna are rallying in support of the emperor, and must determine who she can trust.
Devrim Lingnau plays Elisabeth von Wittlesbach, Melika Foroutan, Sevnja Jung plays Louise, Johannes Nussbaum, Elisa Schlott, Jordis Triebel, Almila Bagriacik, and Wiebke Puls in the series.
Elizabeth (Sisi) stands in a white wedding dress with the background voice saying that she will never be an empress and will only ruin him. It sets the tone for what we should expect from the two lovers, and how they will have to go through many difficulties before they can unite.
Even after their union, will they have a happy conclusion or will there be more to come their way? As the description below the teaser implies, great love, a throne, and an entire kingdom that looks up to her. But Elisabeth's path is anything but easy, as she must battle her way to Franz through intrigue, etiquette, and taboos.

Netflix is scheduled to release the series on 29 September.
