Taylor Swift has already received 11 Grammys, many music awards, and even an Emmy, but has yet to be nominated for an Academy Award. The most surprising twist is that the nomination might be for her film direction rather than her songwriting.
When Swift released her popular 2012 power ballad All Too Well nearly a decade later in 2021, it was far more than a re-recording. She expanded the short film to ten minutes, and it was premiered at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City in mid-November. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences agrees with Swift's assessment.
Swift may be three-fourths of the way to achieving EGOT glory given the incredible popularity of All Too Well: The Short Film.
Swifts other soundtrack works include The Hunger Games, Beautiful Ghosts from Cats, and Only the Young from Miss Americana, which all failed to win any Oscar nominations. This might be her first year to compete in the ceremony's biggest musical category.
Swifties will have a great time, but fans will have to hold off until the 2023 Oscar nominees are announced on January 24, 2023 to see if Swift will receive her first (and possibly second) Oscar nomination. Then, the 94th annual Oscars will air on Sunday, March 12, 2023 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
