Warner Bros. has spent years attempting to recreate the Justice League Dark side of the DC Universe in live-action. The supernatural team is stuffed with DC's magical characters, including Constantine, Zatanna,Madame Xanadu, Deadman, and others.

Doug Liman, the director of The Bourne Identity, was supposed to direct aJustice League Darkmovie, which has since seen concept art surface on the internet, but he ultimately dropped out. Guillermo del Toro was also planning his own take on the supernatural team, which similarly failed.

Several of the characters have since been shown on television, but the drive to unite the entire team in their own project continues. As part of his current Warner Bros. contract, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot have recently been working on his own Justice League Darkfranchise for HBO Max.

A lot of speculation has been made regarding HBO Max's plans for a whole series centered around Justice League Dark members, with a series planned for Constantine and Madame Xanadu. In the wake of DC's massive cancellations under the new Warner Bros. regime, a new update has been offered on the plans.

HBO Max is developing a Justice League Dark that is inspired by Avengers.

In a recent report, Variety revealed that J.J. Abrams'Justice League Darkseries for HBO Max is being developed as an "Avengers-style show" from Bad Robot. Abrams and Bad Robot have long been known to be working onJustice League Darkas, a HBO Max franchise with spin-offs for Constantine and Madame Xanadu.

Constantineand Madame Xanaduremain are in active development, with the former having scouted locations with intentions to begin shooting in early 2023, according to the article. The promising development updates follow HBO Max's cancellation of many other DC projects under the new Warner Bros. Discovery regime.

Constantine, which is written by Guy Bolton, is said to be prone to horror themes, with rumors that Sope Dirisu from Gangs of London is being considered for the lead.

What's Happening With JJ Abrams' Justice League Dark?

Since the first reports that J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot were involved in thisJustice League Darkfranchise, almost two years have gone since. It's unsurprising that Warner Bros. is becoming frustrated with Abrams' absence.

But if Warner Bros. Discovery does decides to cancel Justice League Darktoo before filming, things appear to be moving on.

There's no indication where these projects will take when Warner Bros. decides to phase out HBO Max in favor of a new service that's merging with Discovery+. However, HBO or whatever streamer should take the place of the current one.
