Hsieh is a lifelong angler who is the world's leading scuba diving team, and who was the best friend of 'the Vietnam War' he was defending his best interests.
"When I first envisioned this tournament in 2017, I couldn't imagine this outcome. At the time of the moment, my goal was to host a group of veterans who showed my gratitude for their service with able to fish in Cabo style. Their profound appreciation for the weekend led to what would become the first War Heroes on Water tournament. I couldn't believe that I could share my lifelong passion for fishing, with our support and love, and make such a big impact on their lives. Today I know for certain that the work we're doing with WHOW is changing and saving lives, and that work isn't over."
Hsieh points out that in addition to the $1 million raised directly, the participating yacht owners' in-kind contributionswhich include use of their boats and crews for four days, fuel, tackle, food and moreare estimated at The community contribution is impressive, and the generosity of the direct and in-kind donors is significant.
"We're so grateful to all members of the WHOW community," said Hsieh. The competition is full of yacht owners, captains, crews and sponsors, donors, volunteers and partners of Freedom Alliance, all of whom enthusiasm and heart make the tournament possible and mean the world to our veterans.
According to former U.S. Army artilleryman and three-time tournament participant Drew Mewes, "WHOW has helped me more than I could have ever imagined." It really changed my life. The tournament includes the people who participated in it and the person who supported it. It makes a lot of difference." Mewes served seven years in the Army, including in Iraq.
The World War I Organization raises funds for Freedom Alliance, which supports the rehabilitation needs of wounded service members and their families.
