Neve Campbell has been a fan of theScreamuniverse for over 25 years. She has previously appeared in all five big-screen films, making it a major competitor to Ghostface.
The next year's sequel to the UntitledScream will be the sixth in the series. WhileScream(5) ended with Campbells Sidney as one of a few survivors of the latest Ghostfaces murder spree, she will not appear in the next film. Back in June, Campbell stated that she will not reprise the film.
Campbell explained in detail her decision not to take the franchise for a sixth appearance as Sidney in a new interview. Ultimately, it was a matter of money, as Campbell felt what she was offered did not improve on the value that this franchise brings.
She added that she would not be disappointed.
I believe it is vital for us to be valued and to stand out. I honestly don't believe that if I were a man and had done five episodes of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man. In my heart, I just couldn't do that.
We don't know what Campbell was offered, but it would certainly be interesting to see how her contract compared to a long-running actress. That said, whatever Courteney Cox was offered by producers, it seemed to be enough for her to feel valued, as she will portray her inScream 6 as her character, journalist Gale Weathers. At this point, she is the most unavoidable character left in the cast.
Scream 6 is expected to launch in theaters on March 31, 2023.
