Despite a recent storm at HBO Maxand Warner Bros. Discovery as a whole, Black Canary appears to be still going strong. The film is a remake ofHarley Quinn: Birds Of Prey, starring Jurnee Smollett. However, no reports of it in the summer of 2021 have been made public. Despite numerous changes at HBO Max, Black Canary has managed to avoid meeting the same fate asBatgirl.
Dinah Lance, the former incarnation of Black Canary, has been involved in a number of multi-media projects over the years. During a short-livedBirds of Prey series back in 2002, she featured footage of Michael Keatons Batman and Michelle PfeiffersCatwoman, firmly anchored in the Tim BurtonsBatman franchise. She will also appear inSmallvilleandArrow.
The most recent variation on Black Canary, the one portrayed by Jurnee Smollett, is a singer at a club owned by Black Mask. She appears to have given up that mantle to her daughter. Black Canary has the ability to emit hypersonic screams, but in most incarnations, she is also an expert hand-to-hand combatant.
SoBlack Canary is still due for release sometime within the next few years. After Warner Bros. and Discovery, it was difficult to think anything in the pipeline was certain. If a nearly-completedBatgirl could have been on the chopping block, according to a Warner Bros. rep (viaTVLine).
