Design and display
It is difficult to believe that the fourth generation Galaxy Fold is in our hands right now. Samsung's folding feature with the 7.6-inch display inside is already a well-known quantity, but taking a look at the pictures of the first Galaxy Fold demonstrated how much has changed in four years. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 no longer looks like a shady prototype, but rather as a regular smartphone (or tablet).
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is not only the lightest, but also the most robustfoldable from Samsung. According to Samsung, the Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the back is 12 percent more scratch-resistant than the regular Victus Glass used in the previous one. The Ultra Thin Glass on the foldable panel is even expected to be 20 percent more scratch-resistant than the Z Fold 3's.

The smartphone is a bit more sophisticated across all fronts. The hinge has shrunk and protrudes less from the chassis. Moreover, the displays in the outer screen, which is 2.7 millimeters wider, are noticeable. Nevertheless, the Z Fold 4 is only really stylish when opened.
The 7.6-inch inner display is stunning to look out for thanks to Dynamic AMOLED technology and a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz. However, the QXGA+ resolution or rather crooked 2176 x 1812 pixel count and the excellent brightness of 1,000 nits do the rest. While the under-display selfie camera was still quite visible in the third Z Fold, it is almost invisible in the Z Fold 4. This will take a look closely to see the large amount of pixels that surround
Hardware and software are all working together.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is equipped with incredible performance. All models in the world are under the influence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with 12 GB of RAM. That is good news because the Exynos 2200 could not be completely convinced in the Galaxy S22 series.
Samsung has relied on Android 12L right out of the box with the well-known OneUI 4.1.1, which has been enhanced to accommodate the special folding features. This time, the Z Fold 4 has learned a few new tricks.
When apps are open, there is a permanenta start bar in the lower screen area, which you may use to switch between your apps, or open your apps either in windows or in split-screen mode for multitasking. What you can do right now, anyway?
In other words, there are other changes for the Z Fold 4 in various apps, such as Microsoft Office, Google Meet, or Facebook, which displays Messenger in split-screen mode. If you have purchased the optional S Pen Fold Edition, you may simply annotate text on pictures and screenshots, and the foldable suggests appropriate actions. For example, the calendar opens for a date and an appointment at the selected time.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 was really fun to use and I am looking forward to a thorough review. There, we will also see if the foldable is capable of delivering a stable performance under heavy load. When the Z Fold 3 was pushed, it had to 'noticeably struggle with thermal throttling issues.
The battery performance will be a bonus point. The Z Fold 4 is capable of up to 4,400 mAh, while the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is not exactly an energy-saving monster. In addition, Samsung will be rather off when it comes to speed charging in 2022.
Here is a requirement of 25 watts. Wireless charging and Wireless Powershare are also available. Even if I could not even begin testing the latest Fold battery in about one hour of hands-on time, this smartphone will not be an endurance champion.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a stunning smartphone.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera has been slightly updated and therefore remains unchanged within the mid-range segment. The primary camera has been upgraded from 12 to 50 megapixels. There is a possibility that the Isocell GN5, which we already know from the Galaxy S22 and S22+, is being used here.
A 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera that we already know from the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The triple telephoto zoom has dropped quite a bit on paper at 10 megapixels, but since it has a pixel size of 1.0 microns, it should probably provide a similar appearance and performance as the 1/3.6-inch small chip of the predecessor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with two selfie cameras, each one at the top of the cover display and has a resolution of 10 megapixels. The second is under the inner display, unlike the Z Fold 3's inner selfie camera. That's a great touch!
An Early Verdict
What I'm confident about is that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 isn't a big jump compared to the Z Fold 3, which was also not a big leap compared to the Z Fold 2. However, if you look back four years to the first Fold on the one hand and see the outlay, you only have this to say: Hogwash!
In a relatively short time span, Samsung has managed to bring a completely new smartphone category to everyday development. Here is the Z Fold 4 video, which appears to be quite correct.
