The new analysis by Vitality has strengthened the impact of lifestyle and prevention Efforts on healthly aggraving and retirement

According to an article published by the American Society of Actuaries (SSOA), Lifestyle improvements enhance the health and life expectancy of younger adults, and contribute to post-retirement life, in the journal "The New York Times The research, "Maximizing Health Span: A Literature Review on the Impact of a Healthy Lifestyle on Retirement", explores key health interventions that help long life, but also improve the health of others.

The number of healthy years has lagged, resulting in a "health gap". This research highlights the pivotal role well-established interventions play in overcoming this gap, encompassing prevention activities (including, but not limited to, vaccines and screenings), condition management, physical activity and nutrition. The literature review also explores the importance of healthy aging research in promoting health promotion and prevention.

The company's mission is to make people healthier. "For many, retirement isn't viewed as closing a primary chapter, but an integral second half of life, ripe with opportunity, provided individuals sustain their health and "Incorporating robust interventions for modifiable risk factors benefit not only individuals, but also employers, health plans and society as a whole by reducing healthcare costs and care needs in retirement."

The three main themes in the analysis identified in this study are: a healthy aging theme, and the themes related to healthy ageing.

  • The five risks with the biggest impact on health and longevity based on the report are tobacco use, body mass index, fasting plasma glucose, dietary risks and high blood pressure. Importantly, these dimensions are controlled by condition management and a generally healthy lifestyle. These risk factors are not only essential factors for poor health for individuals, they also contribute 35 percent of the U.S. healthcare spending among those 65 and older. Interventions that modify these behaviors not only benefit the individual's health, but also minimize the cost burden of health in retirement.
  • Other risk factors, there are also well-established evidences that show the positive impact of preventive screening on early intervention and immunizations, which have actually emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Increasingly aging science is an active inquiry area and opportunities that are focused on social engagement, cognitive health, and others attract increasing attention with the aim of increasing healthy life expectancy, but also a sense of purpose and independence in later
  • As a multifaceted approach, it must be emphasized to achieve healthy aging, including the recognition and reduction of health inequity and the important role of employers and governments in ensuring that older adults thrive in their communities.

The study highlights the central role modifiable risk factors have on health outcomes, not just pre-retirement, but also well beyond 65. With the aging population of the United States, there is urgent need for accessible and effective interventions that extend beyond individual. Creating workplaces that champion and value the important contributions of older adults who work post retirement age; and creating healthy and safe community environments to empower healthy aging more broadly. By adopting a more complex approach, individuals, employers and insurers share the value of life longer, healthier and, ideally, more purpose-filled lives.
