EXCLUSIVE: Prey Was Originally Supposed to Be Entirely Filmed in Comanche ...

Prey has the distinction of being not only the finest Predator film in thirty years, but also the first major motion picture to have a Comanche dub. But the dub, which is now available on Hulu, wasnt always a dub. Early ideas for the film consisted of a script that would be performed in the language. However, as the film progressed, the idea was scrapped.

Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey, gave us an insight into why the program was changed during its development.

Youre always linked to Naru and her experience of it as she develops the story. What sounds foreign to her will also sound foreign to the viewers.

Producer Jhane Myers had this to say when asked if the Comanche dub is the essential version of the film.

Yes, for me. But this is the type of film you should watch twice. So I recommend you watch it in Comanche and English.

Even if Prey is as good as it is, a Comanche version would be a completely different experience. Trachtenberg believes the Comanche dub is perhaps somewhat superior to our memory of watching dubbed movies. So even the dubbed version will already be a lot more special than generic dubs.
